Learning to Create Depth in Landscapes

Join contemporary artist Megan Welsh for a fun and relaxing acrylic painting class on the patio, surrounded by the beauty of the mountains. In this workshop, you'll learn the techniques artists use to create depth, atmosphere, and a strong composition in landscape paintings.

Working alongside Megan, you'll paint your own 8" × 10" landscape on canvas while learning essential acrylic painting skills. Topics will include basic color mixing, creating the illusion of distance, understanding composition, and adding the details that bring a painting to life with richness and depth.

Whether you're new to painting or looking to build your skills, you'll leave with a finished piece of artwork, practical techniques you can continue using at home, and the confidence to create more landscapes on your own.

All materials are provided—just bring yourself and enjoy a peaceful, creative afternoon in the mountains.

Light, summery wines from the shop will be served, as well!

A little bit about Megan:

Megan Welsh is a contemporary fine artist inspired by the quiet beauty of nature and florals. Her work celebrates light, color, and atmosphere, creating paintings that evoke peace, joy, and a sense of belonging. Through layered compositions, she invites viewers to pause, reconnect with the natural world, and remember the places that have brought them solace and delight.

When she isn't in the studio, Megan enjoys painting en plein air throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains and along the Carolina coastline. Working directly from nature allows her to capture the ever-changing light, color, and atmosphere that inspire her paintings and deepen her connection to the landscapes she loves.

Megan earned her degree in Art and Education from Calvin University and has spent more than 20 years teaching art. She now paints full time while continuing to share her passion for creativity through adult art classes.
