#2 The Art of the French Picnic | a Cooking Class + Lunch with Guest Chef Peyton Barrel

Happy Summer! Is there anything more dreamy than spreading a big blanket down in a French vineyard, the lavender scent on the breeze, a bottle of pale rosé chilling, soft cheeses and a crusty baguette on a big wooden board? The French literally invented picnicking ….and wow, they do it well!

Today, Peyton will inspire us to picnic like the French. He will teach us all of the ways that French folks simply excel at packing their baskets with the most glorious - and simple! - foods that are not only so delicious, but simple to prepare.

We will spend some time around the La Poste kitchen island - with nibbles, of course - followed by a leisurely seated lunch of what you’ve prepared together.

Abby will be on-hand to help us learn all about some super yummy, French wines that are perfect-for-summer and all of our outdoor picnics, meals, bbqs, and gatherings.

A little about our good buddy Peyton: Peyton Barrell is the Chef of soon to be Asheville Rotisserie, Gourmand. A career long francophile, Peyton has spent time under James Beard Award Winning Chefs, a Michelin Starred French Restaurant, and has spent the last five years operating various iterations of Gourmand. From fine dining, charcuterie, cheese mongering, and most recently rotisserie, Peyton has spent his career immersing himself in the deep rabbit hole of French Cuisine.

This is a wine-included cooking class. We apologize but due to our permit, no outside alcohol is allowed on La Poste’s property.

  • Please be aware of La Poste’s cancellation policy before signing up.

  • La Poste’s kitchen is located on the second floor of a historic building. Taking a small flight of stairs to the second story is required to access the kitchen. I apologize that this may not be ideal for everyone. Please let me know if you’re unable to attend for this reason and I will do my best to help you find a time to attend class at the Barn.
