Wine 101

Join La Poste’s Beverage Babe, Abby, for this in-depth educational series where we breakdown everything you’ve ever wanted to learn about wine!

Let’s start with the basics in a safe space where you will feel comfortable to ask all the questions!

The first of this three-part series is:

Wine 101: How + where are grapes grown? How is wine even made? Why are only some grapes popular? What does ‘natural’ mean and why are we so passionate about this style of wine making. How to ‘taste’ wine.

Here’s what we’ll cover:

  • Vinification: How do grapes become wine?

  • What vessels do we ferment wine in? Oak, cement, clay!?

  • Different styles of wine: bubbles, white, red, pink, amber??

  • Tasting - Lets taste the different styles + discuss what effects the flavors of wine during fermentation + aging.

  • Natural vs. Conventional

Light snacks will be served alongside our wines.

  • Save $5 per class if you sign up for all three classes. If so, message me to find out how to sign up. All three dates: 2/25, 3/11, 3/25

A little bit about Abby: Abby has spent all of her career dedicated to learning about hospitality, food + wine. Working in restaurants basically her whole life - she has a huge passion for creating fun + tasty experiences for people. Formal sommelier training early on got Abby excited about wine, but the real passion came when she started deep diving into NATURAL wines. For the past 5 years Abby has been working with Kristin at the Barn and now La Poste to educate others about the world of drinking wines that are better for us in every way.

She has worked with many wine lists as a sommelier, but La Poste has been specially curated with the tastiest all natural options we can source in our mountains.

This is a wine-included class. We apologize but due to our permit, no outside alcohol is allowed on La Poste’s property.

  • Please be aware of La Poste’s cancellation policy before signing up.

  • La Poste’s kitchen is located on the second floor of a historic building. Taking a small flight of stairs to the second story is required to access the kitchen. I apologize that this may not be ideal for everyone. Please let me know if you’re unable to attend for this reason and I will do my best to help you find a time to attend class at the Barn.
