Join us today for this very special evening cooking class in the La Poste kitchen with guest chefs Sarah and Nate Williams-Scalise from Charleston, SC. based Sarah’s Dumps - a super cool, super small, frozen dumpling company.

This evening, we will learn all about creating the most delicious Korean dumpling fillings, the art of dumpling wrapping + cooking, alongside some favorite sides, veggies and small plates….all paired with Abby’s delicious goto wine picks for this yummy cuisine.

Class will begin with a few hours of casual instruction around La Poste’s beautiful new kitchen island - nibbling all the while, of course - and then finish with a festive, seated meal of what we’ve prepared.

A little bit about Sarah + Nate:

Sarah was born in the seaside province of Jeollabuk-do, South Korea. 5 months later, she traveled halfway around the world with her foster mom to a new family, and a new home – Upstate New York. Starting at a young age, her parents enrolled her into two nearby Korean culture camps each summer. The camps taught Taekwondo, how to write in Korean, fan dancing, and ddakji. But the best part, for Sarah anyways, was the mandu – dumpling filling, crimping, and most importantly, eating.

Nate grew up outside of Pittsburgh in an Italian-Polish family and can remember gathering at a table with his family to eat pierogies (Polish dumpling). In the fall of 2021, Nate left his full-time job as a business banker to prepare for baby dump’s arrival and lead the business. He is the primary maker in the commissary kitchen, delivery man to local retailers, and cook during pop-ups.

They believe that there is something so special about dumplings. Each culture has their own iteration of a dumpling, but often by a different name, shape, and flavor. By sharing the making of dumplings with the community, Sarah and Nate are giving folks a taste of Korea, in many instances, for the first time. They hope that their story reminds folks of the beauty of adoption and cultural similarities, and just like their personalities, always with a dash of humor.

  • This is a wine-included cooking class. We apologize but due to our permit, no outside alcohol is allowed on La Poste’s property.

  • We apologize, but we are unable to accommodate a gluten allergy for this class.

  • Please be aware of La Poste’s cancellation policy before signing up.

  • La Poste’s kitchen is located on the second floor of a historic building. Taking a small flight of stairs to the second story is required to access the kitchen. I apologize that this may not be ideal for everyone. Please let me know if you’re unable to attend for this reason and I will do my best to help you find a time to attend class at the Barn.

+ Cooking classes and creative workshops are always small, hands-on, laid-back, focus on what’s in season, and culminate with a festive, shared meal.

+ Once purchased, your class or workshop tuition is non-refundable, but you may have someone attend in your place if you are unable to attend.

+ If the class or workshop must be canceled due to unforeseen circumstances on the part of la poste, you will have the choice of scheduling a new class or workshop or receiving a complete refund.

+ la poste is surrounded by grassy and gravel areas, steps, and changes in elevation. Please dress appropriately, comfortable footwear and an extra layer of warmth is recommended.

+ I apologize, but La Poste is housed in a historic building and the kitchen can only be accessed by a small set of stairs to the second floor.

+ Not responsible for personal injury or accidents while on the la poste property.
